This delightful guava pastry is easy to prepare with a few, ready-made ingredients and a warm oven. So simple, it almost feels like cheating

- 1 box puff pastry
- 8 oz guava paste
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 tbs water
- 1 tbs granulated sugar
- Preheat oven to 400F.
- Lay puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Slice the cream cheese into 15 pieces and lay 3 rows of 5 onto the puff pastry.
- Repeat with the guava paste placing on top of cheese.
- Beat together egg and water to make a wash, then brush onto the exposed areas of the puff pastry. This will help to seal the dough.
- Lay the second sheet of puff pastry directly over the first, using your fingers or a smooth edged kitchen tool to press together the seams and edges.
- Brush the top of the pastry with the egg wash, use a knife to poke a hole in the top of each mound, then sprinkle with the granulated sugar.
- Bake on the top rack of oven for 25 – 30 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.
- Allow to cool for 10 – 15 minutes before cutting into 15 pieces with a pizza cutter. Serve and enjoy your delicious guava pastry!
- Guava paste and guava jelly / jam are not the same. Please do not substitute or you will end up with a runny mixture.
- Option – dust with powdered sugar to serve.
