Cuban Mojito

Word is that this refreshing cocktail and Caribbean favorite started in Cuba. With its name derived from the African word for a magic spell, ‘mojo’ and the suffix ‘-ito’ for little, it just might put a little spell on you! It is said that the mojito was even a favorite of the famous American author, Ernest Hemingway.


Serves 1

INGREDIENTS

  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 lime cut into 4 wedges
  • 1 1/4 0z white rum
  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 2 oz soda water

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Place mint leaves and 1 lime wedge in a glass and use a muddler to crush lime and mint leaves to release the juice and oils
  2. Add 2 more lime wedges and sugar and mix again
  3. Fill glass with ice almost to the top
  4. Pour rum over ice and add soda water
  5. Garnish with lime wedge
