Tips on Creating Sauces

Whether it’s jerk sauce from the Caribbean or another type of signature smother-able from elsewhere the world, amazing sauces can give basic dishes a powerful regional signature. Here are a few tips on creating your own sauces.

  1. Release rich, robust flavors into your sauce by adding liquid to, or “deglazing”, pots or pans used to brown the meats or vegetables that are the main part of your meal.
  2. Acids such as wine or citrus will brighten your sauces, while heavier components like tomatoes or cream will enrich them.
  3. The thickness of your sauce will increase, and flavor will become more concentrated, the longer you leave the sauce simmering on the stove.
  4. As a result, adding too much salt too early on could possibly leave you with an over seasoned mixture.
