Carriacou, Grenadines
In the high season, the most popular Caribbean vacation spots can get very crowded. The mix of stunning beaches, fabulous food and unparalleled local hospitality is hard to resist for many Caribbean vacationers. So we have compiled a list of places to visit for a more relaxed atmosphere.
Here are four Caribbean vacation spots you didn’t know existed:
1. Carriacou, Grenadines
Officially part of Grenada, Carriacou is an island covered in lush green forests and ringed with immaculate beaches. Carriacou means ‘land of the reefs’ and unsurprisingly the island is surrounded by stunning reefs. There are plenty of great snorkeling and scuba spots for those so inclined. But if underwater activities are not your thing, you can always visit to some of the abandoned sugar mills that are dotted all over the island. There is still not a lot in the way of 5 star accommodation on this as yet largely undiscovered (by the seasonal tourist) island paradise. Try our friends at Hotels Combined for great vacation rental options at the best prices.
2. Fowl Cay, Bahamas
Relax and escape the crowds on this private island which is part of the Exuma island chain in the Bahamas. The 50-acre resort is made up of six oceanfront villas, each with its own 17-foot boat to make exploring the islands bays and beaches all the more easy (and fun!). Have you seen the famous swimming pigs on Instagram? This island is their home and there are daily feeding times at ‘Big Major Spot’ beach.
